Ten thousand years ago the Tama Lakes and other circular valleys in the Tongariro National Park were active craters with powerful throw ups of debris with more than three kilometers from the vents.

It’s a relaxed day tour unfortunately with no circular path, but significant less crowded than the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
