Nimbin was a sleepy nest until 1973 Hippie-Festival called Aquarius Festival took place. At that time the police imprisoned four visitors during the celebration. In a peaceful protest all celebrators went to the police station and demanded their immediate release. The police surrendered, let the prisoners free and legalized the consume of cannabis.
