Nimbin was a sleepy nest until 1973 Hippie-Festival called Aquarius Festival took place. At that time the police imprisoned four visitors during the celebration. In a peaceful protest all celebrators went to the police station and demanded their immediate release. The police surrendered, let the prisoners free and legalized the consume of cannabis. Many guest of those time remind residents.
